Tanzania Passport / Tanzania Visa Information
Tanzania Visa requirements vary for visitors coming in from different countries. Most visitors require visas with the exception of citizens of certain countries of the Commomwealth. It is advisable to obtain them in advance from Embassies and High commissions as several airlines insist on them prior to departure.
Requirements may change and you are advised to contact the appropriate diplomatic or consular authority before finalising your travel arrangements.
Although part of the union of Tanzania, Zanzibar remains independent, so Tanzania Passports/ Tanzania visas are required on a day's visit. Below is a short list of the various fees appicable to citizens of the mentioned countries. The fees applicable may change without notice.
- For Americans: US passport holders must have a valid passport. A visa is required for stays of up to three months and is obtainable on arrival for a fee of US$50 which may change over time to time
- For UK nationals: United Kingdom passport holders must have a valid passport on when arriving in Tanzania. A visa is required for stays of up to 3 months and can be obtained on arrival for a fee of US$50.
- South Africans: South Africans must hold a valid passport on arrival. A visa is required and may be obtained on arrival for US$10.
- For Australians: A visa is required for stays of up to three months and may be obtained on arrival for US$30.
- For New Zealanders: New Zealand nationals require a valid passport, but no visa is necessary. A Visitor's Pass must be obtained on arrival.
- For Canadians: Canadian passport holders must have a valid passport on arrival. A visa is required for stays of up to three months and may be obtained on arrival for US$50.
- For Irish nationals: Irish nationals require a valid passport, but a visa is not necessary. A Visitor’s Pass must be obtained on arrival.
Passport/Visa Note:
All passports should be valid for at least six months from date of entry.
Travellers coming from a country where there is no Tanzanian embassy or
high comission can get a visa on arrival at Dar-es-Salaam or Zanzibar
airports. All visitors require proof of sufficient funds and should hold
documentation for their onward/return journey.
